How to draw lines in Photoshop – 2023

My understanding is that the pencil system would draw lines in Photoshop a straight line with anchor points. Is there a pencil instrument setup that can mimic a 30-point, low-hardness brush (faded from side to side) at an angle of about 80 degrees, or is there a way to use the mouse to create a straight line with the tool Brush?

I know this image is somewhat blurry. What I want to do is replace the white lines with 2 angles with a brush effect of 230 pixels wide and 30 points. The project is a 2-foot by 4-foot canvas to the left of the painting. Any ideas? Support, please.

Straight lines are simple: click where you want to start the line with the brush (you can paint a single point), then hold down the shift key and click where you want the line to end; draw lines in photoshop a straight line between your start and end.

Also, you can use the pen tool to build a path for even more power, and then simply trace the path with the brush.

I guess the problem you have is that your lines are set to ‘inner’ stroke, so no matter the weight of the pt, you won’t see the result. Next to the weight of the pt, you have to press the line style> then more options> then where it says align, put it to the center or to the outside. I hope it helps.

This is the most important answer I have seen of the three here. Your stroke has to be established on the outside of your shape. PS defaults to an inner stroke, not an outer stroke, so no matter how dense you make it if you set it to “inner stroke” it is obviously not going to appear.

This is the answer, so I have accepted it. I have also upvoted @Ryan’s answer because it correctly identifies the underlying problem: a “line” is simply drawing lines in photoshop by Photoshop as a rectangle for some strange reason. There could be no ‘inside’ vs ‘outside’ stroke if it were a real line.

In the October 2020 release of Photoshop, the content-aware tracing tool will be released as a Tech Preview and will allow you to create vector paths and selections by simply hovering your mouse over the edges of your image and clicking.

For example, zooming out will help Photoshop to recognize an edge more easily if you are working with a lower resolution image. If you zoom in (100 percent or more), the tool will define the edges using the default resolution of 1-1 pixels.

Hover over an adjacent border to highlight a new segment to add to the path, and hold down the Shift key while pressing to expand the path. The pink line that appears means that a new segment is being connected to the existing path.

Photoshop shows a look at the edges Photoshop sees when you change the Detail slider. Moving the slider to the right increases the number of edges detected by Photoshop, and moving it to the left reduces the number of edges detected.

You can draw lines in photoshop smooth curves and straight line segments just as easily using the Curvature Pen tool. With this intuitive method, create custom shapes in your designs or identify precise paths to perfect your images.

Create, change, add, or uninstall soft or corner points by doing so without having to rotate assets.
